Adding New Courses
Follow these steps to create a new Harmonia course.
Step 1:
On your dashboard, click the Create a new course link to start the process.
Step 2:
Fill in the information in the Course Settings page the above link directs you to.
Each Harmonia course uses one of the two license types, Site License (purchased by your school)** and Course License (purchased by your students). Choose an option based on your course setting. To learn more about these license types, click here.
**Site licenses are free for new courses set up from March 13, 2020 through the end of the academic year.
Step 3:
Click the Create New Course button at the bottom of the page. When you do so, a new course is created for you. The newly created course is at the Preparation stage. Each Harmonia course goes through four stages from beginning to the end: Preparation, Activation Requested, Active, and Ended. To learn about these stages, click here.
Your new course will already contain an assignment called "Welcome To Harmonia!" that introduces students to working in Harmonia. We highly recommend that you have your students read through this document and practice its interactive examples on how enter notes, play music, and fill in theory symbols before attempting to complete any of your course material. If you don't want to use the "Welcome To Harmonia!" document you can simply delete it from your course, or add a "due date" time limit so that the assignment disappears from their cloud course menu after a certain date.
Step 4:
Once the course is created, Harmonia will take you to the main page of the new course. You can also find the link to this page on your dashboard.
When the course is at its Preparation stage, you can change the course settings by clicking the "Settings" button located at the bottom of the notification block.
Step 5:
When you are ready to take your course online, click the "Activation Request" button next to the "Settings" button. This moves your course to the Activation Requested stage. If Harmonia found no issues in your course settings, it will move your course to the Active stage.
Once the Activation Request button is clicked, you can no longer change the course settings through Harmonia's dashboard. Contact Harmonia staff directly if you need to change your course settings.
What's next?
When your course is at the Active stage, you can access four main groups of functions related to the course:
- Course Information
- People
- Assignments
- Records
You can now add other instructors, teaching assistants, and students to your new course. More importantly, you can start uploading your Harmonia assignments. Students can open the assignments directly in the Harmonia app, do their homework, and submit it. The records and the files will be available for you to view on the Harmonia website.
